When securing or fastening the paper disc to the hardplate, using two discs instead of one will sometimes offer more support of the disc, causing less chance of center paper tear-out (suggest grades 80 and finer). The finer the abrasive grade, the more torque the buffer will create for the sandpaper because of more friction and grab of the sandpaper to the surface being sanded. Always have a clean backup pad. If the felt pad becomes worn or uneven, develops hard spots or becomes dirty from floor finish spilling onto the pad, you need to replace it, because you will sand unevenly, causing extra sanding scratches into the floor
